Smoke and Mirrors
Grotto's and Mirror Boxes
This is an older collection of work that is more concerned with spaces than objects, and more with what is inside something than what is on the outside. I come at this idea in a whimsical way. Where i grew up people were always building little dioramas of baby jesus surrounded by three wise men made of felt and cotton wool sheep and gnome villages with hedgehogs made of pinecones, and i remember the sense of wonder and belief i had at these minatures, completely seperate from their surroundings, as if i was glimpsing into another world, getting to see something i wasnt supposed to see. I suppose i am always attempting to do that experience of childhood wonder and imagination justice and build small fantasy worlds to escape to.

This was an attempt to erase the 'outside' part of the sculpture all together by placing mirrors on the outisde of the box as well as the inside, it looks almost like a floating portal to another garden.
